Medication Rules
- ALL medication (prescription, non-prescription, vitamins, supplements, etc.) must be checked in with the Camp Medic upon arrival at camp. This includes groups that have their own nurse/medic.
- Sponsors are required to turn in their medications the same as students.
- Medication is not allowed in the dorms unless prior arrangements have been made with TPCC for the group to bring their own nurse.
- All medications must remain secured. (Lock and key only nurse/medic has)
- Campers are not allowed to share any medication belonging to them with any other camper. IE; siblings cannot share medications even when they take the same medication at the same dosage. Each must bring their own medication with their name on the prescription in the original prescription bottle.
- Maintenance inhalers must be checked in with the Camp Medic.
- Medication needed for immediate use for life-threatening conditions (i.e. rescue inhalers and EpiPens) are to be kept with the camper, and should be carried by the sponsor escorting the child during camp, and be confident in administering. All spares are to be checked in with the Camp Medic or group nurse.
- At TPCC, a child or teen MUST be accompanied by a Sponsor when he/she goes to the clinic for meds or first aid.
Medication Preparation
- Do not bring pill boxes/organizers to camp. State Law prohibits this.
- Prescription medication MUST be in the original container with the prescription label.
- Non-prescription medication MUST be in the original container. This includes, but isn’t limited to, over-the-counter medications taken on a regular basis, vitamins, supplements, etc.
- Please do NOT pack OTC pain relief like Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Advil). We have these along with Diphenhydramine, and in several different forms.
- Please DO include any OTC allergy medication taken on a regular bases, as there MANY different one's available, and we want our campers to be as comfortable as possible.
- Each camper must put his/her medication(s) in a zip-up food storage bag with his/her name and church name on it.
- Each camper must put a signed Medication Form in the zip-up bag with his/her medications.
Recommended Process for Group Leaders
- Distribute copies of the Medication Form to Sponsors and Parents. Forms are available through TPCC.
- Put medications in zip-up food storage bags as directed above with a signed Medication Form in each.
- Check in camper medications at your church before you depart for camp. Compare actual medications to the medications listed on the Medication Form. Make sure all medications are listed on the form, and anything on the form is in the bag.
- Please understand that if you do not address discrepancies while you have parents present it will be very difficult to address them at camp when parents are possibly hours away.
- Be prepared to turn in medications upon arrival at camp.
- The Camp Medic will review all medications and forms on the first day. This includes groups that have brought their own nurse/medic to ensure State compliance.
